Adding emoticons to web-based emails

Q: When I’m trying to add SweetIM emoticons/smileys to emails, the following message pops: "Emoticons for Emails, Blogs & Social nets...", but the emoticon is not added to the email.   What should I do ?

A: SweetIM is compatible with all web based email providers that support rich text or html modes. It does not support the plain-text mode (since all graphic elements are disabled in this mode). Switching to rich text / html mode is easy. Either search for an explanation in your provider’s help section on switching to rich text mode, or find the relevant help for your email provider below:

Hotmail / MSNWindows Live MailYahoo MailGmail.

In case switching to rich text mode didn’t help, you might want to try this solution.

Hotmail / MSN:

Click on “Tools”, and then click on “Rich-Text Editor ON”:

Notice: This pull down menu can be rather confusing. You will know that Rich-Text mode is set to on when the last item in the “Tools” pull-down menu is: “Rich-Text Editor OFF”, as illustrated here:

In addition, you will know that it is set to on when you will see the following Rich-Text menu:

Windows Live Mail:

If you are using the light version of Windows Live Mail, you’ll have to switch to the full version. To do so, click on "Options", and then on "Switch to the full version."

Yahoo Mail:

Click on "Options", then click on "General preferences", then under "Composing E-mails" choose "Compose messages as color and graphics" and click on "Save".

Gmail:

Click on “Rich formatting” that is located under the “To:” and “Subject:” fields.

The above solution didn’t help ?

Try the following:
Reset your Internet Explorer security settings to Medium (default) level:

  1. Open Internet Explorer menu Tools->Internet Options->Security tab
  2. Select Internet zone
  3. Click Default Level button
  4. Click OK

Still doesn’t work ?
